Progress

One very relaxed weekend makes for lots of progress on the knitting, spinning and reading fronts.  I spent Saturday at home, curled up in my jammies, resting and hoping to keep a cold from setting in (so far, so good).  I finished a book – Knit One, Pearl One and started another – Maine.  Two very different reads and each wonderful in their own right.

I spun a bit:still in love with it…

I knitted like crazy on my Smokehouse Cabled Vest:I finally got to the armhole shaping.  Try as I might this weekend, I didn’t quite make it to finishing the back – about 4 more inches to go.

I did a few repeats on my lovely and mindless Baktus:The real progress on my Baktus came on this:Notice how a third of the ball is wrapped around the middle?  That was one massive tangle in my center pull ball.  I knew it was in there somewhere but happily denied until I absolutely had to deal with it.  Of course, it came at 9:45 Sunday night, when I was planning to go to bed the second Desperate Housewives was over (and yes, in one post, I’ve admitted to reading knit lit and watching DH – stopping judging! ;-) )  A solid hour later, I had it all untangled and wound neatly onto the ball again without taking scissors to it.  Incredibly satisfying, even if its not the kind of progress I had hoped to make.

Onward – happy Monday!

My weekend – relaxed and fun.  No stress, no pressure to get things done, a few plans, a few spur of the moment fun things.  And look what happened – plenty of knitting time.  That mitten, frogged last weekend, cast on again during the week, is now up past where it was when I ripped it back.

Bliss.

Weekending

Taking a cue from Carole and Margene and a few others last week, the highlights of my weekend, in no particular order:

  • I knitted.  Lots.  I finished the cuff on my second rpm sock, turned the heel and started cruising down the foot.
  • I plied up the yarn above – its the Corgi Hill BFL/silk that I spun recently.  I navajo plied it.
  • I haven’t yet mastered the art of not over-plying when I navajo ply.  As I write this on Sunday night, the yarn is getting a warm bath, then it will be treated to a thwacking and a weighted dry, in hopes of evening out the twist a bit.
  • I made and ate lots of tacos – chicken soft tacos on Saturday and beef hard shell tacos on Sunday night.
  • I have no idea what got me so in the mood for them but yum!  So delicious!
  • Sadly, I was on call, so there was not a margarita in sight to go with them.
  • I watched more Weeds – I’m working my way through Season 6 from Netflix.  How I love the dark, twisted humor of that show, even if it is getting a bit more violent than I usually can tolerate.  Love it, no matter what.
  • There was lots of kitty snuggling.
  • And grooming.  Its shedding season and there’s floof everywhere.  Thankfully, my boys don’t mind a bit.  They actually fight over their turn with the brush or Furminator.  High maintenance, those three.
  • If there was a theme to my weekend, it was “catching up”.
  • On Saturday, I caught up with my family, hanging with the little guys and their parents, one of whom was having a birthday.
  • I saw my niece and gave her the Button Tunic – she loved it!  She even modeled later on and sent me a picture of it.  Love!
  • Sunday meant catching up on household stuff, like dishes and laundry and other random stuff.
  • In spite of a full Sunday at home, I never touched the vacuum cleaner or the mop.
  • I don’t regret that for a minute.

Monday comes way too quickly.  Here’s hoping for a good week!

Down Time

Finally, a quiet weekend with no obligations to go anywhere or do anything.  This is the first weekend since oh, about Labor Day in which I haven’t had a single thing on the schedule.  Tomorrow is a remarkably ordinary Sunday – church (haven’t been in at least a month and a half?) followed by the last farmer’s market of the season.  Its quiet and relaxed.  There’s stuff to do, yes, but I feel little pressure to do anything at all.  Tomorrow we’ll do some yard word (weather permitting).  Today, I’m switching my summer clothes with my winter clothes and doing some random things for the business.  Other than that, its a whole lot of relaxing.  The cats are loving this change of pace.  I was veritably held down in the living room armchair all morning (not that I fought it) with a kitty pile, until I relented and took a two hour nap.  I’ve been crocheting, poking through some of the fall knitting magazines that have been sitting around untouched and just enjoying some down time.  Our big plan for evening is to make some mac and cheese and watch a movie.  Just right.
