10 Days

My realtor called today with the news: the sale of my house is officially approved.  Huge sigh of relief.

Then came the rest: they still want to close on March 19, or thereabouts.

And so it began.  Chaos.

My move just went from slow, leisurely even, painting first to packing and moving a little of my stuff at a time over the course of the next month, with the furniture, the cats and me all going for good on March 27 to moving it all in the next 10 days.  And still painting first.  Moving day is now March 13.  In between then and now?  Insanity at work: 4 grants to finish, volunteer training and all of the usual “stuff” that happens every day.  Crazy hours and workload to begin with, now made worse by taking 2 days off at the end of next week to move.  It is our busiest time of year and I now have to move smack in the middle of 2 weeks of work craziness.  Timing is everything, as they say.  I’ll admit that I’m a little bit freaked out by the idea of it all.  I need to wrap my brain around just how to accomplish everything that needs to happen in the next 10 days.

Complaining aside, there is one big positive thing – my move now can’t be dragged out.  By two weeks from tonight, I’ll be blogging from my new apartment, hopefully mostly unpacked and starting to settle in. I can’t wait for that.

It probably goes without saying that things will be pretty quiet around here over the next couple of weeks.  At some point late next week, I’ll be without internet all together as things go from one place to the next.  I’m planning to put my Etsy shop on vacation from March 9 to 16ish.  It’ll go back up once I’m unpacked enough to ship orders again.

I’ll check in when I’m able.  Right now, off to pack – something.

Random Sunday

It got a little quiet around here, didn’t it?  Not intentionally, that’s for certain.  The latter part of the week was pretty chaotic.  I was very, very sick on Wednesday night and Thursday and was pretty well forced to slow down for a couple of days.  I’m fine now, feeling better.  Unfortunately, this was one of those moments where I realized that I have to slow down, back off on some things a bit, as my need to do 8 things at once was part of what got me so sick.  So, the blog got quiet, I didn’t do a marathon of dyeing as planned this week and I’m trying hard to focus on one thing at a time.  Not easy for me!

I have done some things in the last few days – I’m not slowing down that much, after all.  That’s what makes this a random kind of post.  A little of this and a little of that.

There was a little knitting.  I re-started Danny’s sweater and actually knitted past the point where I was on Wednesday.  And I did it all during a movie last night.  Here is the boring shot of the back of the sweater that I promised in my last post: D's sweater back The reason I’m showing you this is because the yarn is just delightful.  Surprisingly so because it has my least favorite thing in it — acrylic.  Yep, this yarn snob is knitting with ackrylick.  And liking it.  Hell has not yet frozen over; it is after all 52% merino.  But the other 48% — “acrylic microfiber”.  (As an aside, one of my biggest pet peeves with yarn is calling acrylic something other than what it is — like, microfiber.  Its acrylic.  May as well call it what it really is – plastic.  Or better yet, shitty for the earth petroleum product.  Rowan does this a lot.  Irritating.)  Anyhow, I actually like this 48% shitty for the earth, nothing natural about it petroleum yarn.  It doesn’t feel like plastic yarn.  The merino is far more prominent – it behaves like a superwash merino.   Nice.  The really fun thing is that it has this great rounded look in the strand and it maintains that.  My stitches are nice and plump looking.   It has a squooshy look and feel to it.  And its kid-friendly, washable and durable.  I’d use it again.  It knits up super fast, so I may actually finish the back this week.

There was a little dyeing.  Not a lot, as I’m working on the not-over-doing-it thing.  I dyed up the rest of my BFL – there was only 2 pounds left.   I dyed it up in the new colorways, 4 ounces of each.  BFL more bfl They’re really fun.  They were just out of the bath then, so more pictures next week.  I also dyed up the yarn for Mr. Greenjeans: Mr. Greenjeans yarn The purple looks a little intense right now.  It too was wet.  Hoping it will mellow when its dry and reskeined.

Lastly, I do plan on a “Name that Colorway” contest in the next few days.  I have to find some time to put together something coherent, including prizes (likely Painted Sheep Gift Certificates).  Keep your eye out for it this week.

That’s my random.  I’m off to do some work-related work.  Don’t you love “short” weeks?  Having Thursday and Friday off means I get to do 5 days worth of work in 3 days.   In the interest of not working 3 10+ hour days (see I’m slowing down), I’m working at home a bit on a Sunday.  After that, another movie and more knitting.

Enjoy your day!

I spent a happy, busy weekend in the dye studio.  It was very productive!  There are Etsy updates coming soon!  In the next day or two (or three), I’ll be adding 10 BFL rovings and several more merino superwash rovings.  Later in the week (probably closer to the weekend), I’ll be adding sock yarn.  That’s right, sock yarn is finally back!  I’ve had one lonely skein in my inventory since about June…  There’s 30 skeins of Painted Sock Too drying in the studio as I post.  No pictures yet, as there’s not even room in the studio to maneuver with the camera.

Next up: Shimmer.  Ev wound off about a dozen skeins last night (thank you!) so that I can dye them on Tuesday evening.  I have two full days of dyeing planned for the weekend, including Painted Sock, Zen and alpaca/merino/silk rovings.

This flurry of activity is prompted by one thing: we’re on vacation for a week mid-month.  An actual, going away on a plane for a full week vacation (to the in-laws in Colorado – its still a vacation, right?).  True to form, I’m having an oh-my-hell-I’m-going-away-soon reaction and feel the need to get EVERYTHING done before I leave – for The Painted Sheep, my full time job and at home.  Thrown in the middle is training for new counselors at work (I’m teaching this time, not attending – so I’m only obligated to four nights of the next two weeks) and moving one of our satellite offices to a new space.  Hello, crazy!  If you see me in person, I’ll likely be the blur running by.  Well, that or the chick in the corner with a glass of wine and a slightly dazed look about her…

Blog posts will likely be sporadic.  The dyeing must be done, in between work and everything else.  Etsy updates will come, maybe in drips and drabs, but they’ll definitely happen.  I want to have a well stocked shop so that I have orders to fill when I return from vacation ;)
