FO!

I finished my niece’s sweater on Thanksgiving morning.  I love how it came out – perfect for an active little girl.

The details:

  • Pattern: Sailor’s Rib Sweater by Wendy Bernard, in IK Weekend 2009
  • Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash Handpaints.  I used 2 of the 3 skeins it called for (I suspect the slightly higher yardage on the Cascade than on the recommended yarn had something to do with it).
  • Needles: Size 8
  • Pattern mods: I purposely added an inch to the body and accidentally added an extra horizontal repeat of the Sailor’s Rib on the body.
  • Started: November 10; finished: November 26

One Christmas project down, 4 to go…   how many days left?

Ev's Hot Water Bottle Cozy

My Christmas knitting is done!  I finished Ev’s hot water bottle cozy early this morning.  The picture (yes, I changed my mind – if he spots the picture, I’m guessing he’ll assume its mine) doesn’t do the color justice – its a deep, rich blue.   The cables stand out nicely.  Its super soft Malabrigo.  Hmmm, Ev will have toasty toes in bed this winter…

I’m off to work early.  Last day before vacation and it promises to be a touch crazy.   It seems everyone is flipping out about the snow storm that’s predicted to start around noon.  It’ll be a good one — they’re calling for 8 to 12 inches.  Woo hoo!  I’m psyched.  As you know, I love the snow.  This time of year, I miss Syracuse – for that reason alone.  I like REAL winters!  And no, I’m not freaking out like everyone else.  I may leave a little early, but honestly it’ll be more because I (fingers crossed) have things wrapped up for vacation than because there’s snow on the roads.  I say, bring it on!

D's Christmas Sweater

Its done!  The details are on my Ravelry project page, here.  The best part, I didn’t have to run to Webs.  I had enough yarn for all but one side/sleeve seam.  And thanks to some damn fine seaming skills, I managed to sew up one side in blue – and you’d never know it :)

Something hit me when I was finishing this up tonight – its a little boy sweater.  Obvious, yes – but it really hit me that between the style and the size, its really meant for a little boy.  I’m not knitting baby and toddler stuff for D anymore.   My sweet nephew is growing up way too fast…

Work craziness continues, so this one’s going to be a quickie…

I met my goal, finished a sleeve on Danny’s sweater.   No pictures, because its the boring brown sleeve.  The stripey sleeve will be more fun.  Well more fun if my slight pattern mods work and if I don’t run out of yarn.  This pattern is not well written – remember the issues with finished measurements not working out?  There’s more minor, annoying stuff here and there.   Case in point – the striped sleeve, knit flat, has stripes that are 5 rows.  That means no carrying the unused color up the side but instead breaking and rejoining the yarns at each stripe.  Yeah, no.  I’m making 6 row stripes and carrying the colors.  The yarn quantity is a big issue.  I’m getting gauge (even a little tight) and I’m into my 5th ball of the main color, when it called for 4.   Best case scenario is that I’ll have just enough for the striped sleeve, neck band and seams.  Worst case – I’m running to Webs.  We’ll see.

I did make good progress on Ev’s gift this week – more than halfway through it.  And as I suspected, the Malabrigo was a suitable replacement for my crack-like Morehouse Merino.  Admittedly, I didn’t actually stop working on the mitts – they became my car project all weekend when we were out and about.  Finished all but the thumb on the first one  :)

My actually Christmas shopping is done – woot!  Now for the knitting – the goal for the week is to do the other sleeve and get to the final part of Ev’s gift.  Once Friday is over, my work life calms down significantly.  And I have few plans for the weekend, so I may actually accomplish all that and then some.

Oops – lied, not such a quickie.  If I’m to stay sane on this crazy day, I’m going to pick up my knitting for 5 minutes before I get ready for work.  I’m off…

Enjoy your day!
