Sometimes you need a quickie

that title will get me some fun spam in the comments… for those of you here for something else entirely, hi! sorry to disappoint.

I’m talking knitting, of course. my projects lately are all long or complicated. lovely but they aren’t exactly going anywhere fast.

Saturday afternoon, for no other reason than I needed to get out of the house for a bit, I headed for a local shop that I don’t go to very often – Knits and Pearls in Avon. lovely shop, very friendly, beautiful selection. I walked in the door and this was in front of me:

20140126-104435.jpg Malabrigo Rasta – about the thickness of clothesline, soft, squishy and gorgeous. it spoke to me. lucky for me, there was a sample of a cowl nearby, a one skein project, a free pattern too boot. looking at a snowy evening at home and a good movie (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) on tap, it came home with me.

a few hours later –

the movie, the project, the evening were all delightful. I needed instant gratification, the kind of project you pick up and don’t put down. it took about 3 hours, with some distractions and not counting the time I needed to rip out the nearly finished graft and a couple of rows because I ran out of yarn. nothing was added to the stash in the process. and tomorrow, I have a lovely topper for a black shirt, jeans and boots. perfect!

the details –
yarn: Malabrigo Rasta in Azules
pattern: Rainbow Twist by Thao Nguyen, Nerd Bird Makery
needle: size 17
started and finished: January 25

back to the cardigan – my fingers are itching for some colorwork…
