I ran to the store for a couple of things on Thursday morning and left with more than what was on my list (not going to give more details on the “how” than that.) a trip to urgent care confirmed a knitter/spinner/weaver’s worst fear – I broke my wrist.
that said, things are actually looking up a bit. while i cannot do any of my favorite things at the moment (no running or even hitting the elliptical or stair master at the gym either – believe me, I begged for clearance and no dice), cooking and a lot of every day tasks will be a challenge, its better than yesterday. the doctor at urgent care put me in a cast from above my elbow, bent at a 45 degree angle and going past my knuckles, accessorized by a sling. by comparison, this one is much better. that same doc told me 6-8 weeks in the cast to heal and no knitting, etc for a while. i saw an orthopedic surgeon today and was told 4-6 weeks in this smaller cast and that i can try to knit a bit once the swelling goes down and my fingers can tolerate it. it hurts more today but frankly between better pain meds, having my elbow back and the good news about recovery time, I’m smiling a bit more again.
so not what i had in mind when i’ve just gotten a loom, have been spinning regularly again and prime time for knitting is upon us (first person to utter the words “Rhinebeck sweater” to me is going to get kicked)…
keep your fingers crossed that I’m back at it – soonish?
